Below is a list of the students that I have supervised over the past few years.
Hannah FowlerJune - August
Hannah was a third year Chemistry MChem student at the University of Sheffield at the time, recruited through the Think Ahead: SURE scheme and funded by an RSC Undergraduate Research Bursary. The title of Hannah's project was "Mechanistic Investigations into CO2 Reduction Catalysts using Computational Chemistry". Hannah was looking into the mechanism of the reaction of CO2 with some Managese-based catalysts that we have looked at in the Weinstein group, following the computational protocol found in this paper by Riplinger et al. Hannah found some interesting differences between the compound we were looking at and those reported in the literature. She also contributed to some existing work, which was published in Spall et al., Inorg. Chem., 2016, 55, 12568-12582. Hannah will join the TMCS CDT in 2017.
John J. CullyJune - August
John was a second year Chemical Physics MPhys student at the University of Sheffield at the time, recruited through the Think Ahead: SURE scheme and funded by an RSC Undergraduate Research Bursary. The title of John's project was "Theoretical Investigations into Light Harvesting Compounds with Controllable Electron Transfer Dynamics". John identified one candidate compound that we predict will display vibrationally controllable electron transfer. It has recently been synthesised and its properties will be examined in an upcoming Weinstein group trip to the Central Laser Facility at RAL.
